British Kayakers Travel 500 Miles, Make Stops Along Erie Canal

Marcy, NY (WIBX) – Two British kayakers are traveling more than 15-miles on the Erie Canal.
Richard Harpham and Glenn Charles will be in town today as their 500-mile journey from Niagara Falls to the Statue of Liberty stops in our area.
Oneida County Tourism President Kelly Blazosky says for lead kayaker Richard Harpham the trip’s symbolism goes far beyond the physical rigors of the journey. Harpham will bring a symbolic vessel of water from upstate and empty it when he arrives alongside Manhattan. The ceremonial gesture is a nod to Governor Clinton’s “wedding of the waters.”
Check out the Erie Canalway’s website for the journey schedule, or get more information on Richard and Glenn’s Spare Seat Kayak Expedition, along with some amazing photographs by Glenn.
