Broome County remains high on the list of municipalities with financial issues.

According to a report from New York State Comptroller Thomas DiNapoli, Broome had a score of 67-point-one, putting it fourth on the list of governments under significant fiscal stress at the end of 2016.

27 governments are on the financially stressed list while Oxford has been listed as susceptible to financial stress.

The results of the report are based on such factors as year-end fund balances, operating deficits and surpluses, use of short-term debt, environmental factors, schools, population, property values, poverty, graduation rates, employment and taxes.

The current Broome County Executive, Jason Garnar, has blamed the administration of former County Executive Debra Preston for the County’s financial problems.  Garnar took office in January.
