Authorities say 85-year-old Dolores Gajdik was hit by the car around 8:35 a.m.

Investigators say Gajdik hit the vehicle's hood and windshield. She was thrown over the car and landed on the roadway.

A person who came upon the scene administered CPR before medics arrived. Gajdik was taken to Wilson Medical Center in Johnson City. She was pronounced dead at 9:15 a.m.

According to the Broome County Sheriff's Office, the car was driven by a 24-year-old Johnson City man.

Tarr told investigators he momentarily took his eyes off the road while opening a beverage. He said when he looked up, he saw Gajdik in the roadway and the vehicle hit her.

Officials say the investigation is continuing. They say no tickets had been issued and they anticipated no charges would be filed.

Investigators said Gajdik was crossing from the west side of Front Street, possibly heading toward a bus stop. She had crossed the two southbound lanes of the roadway and was in a northbound lane when she was struck by the vehicle.

Traffic on Upper Front Street near the SUNY Broome Community College campus was slowed for about two hours while the police investigation was conducted.
