A retired Utica firefighter has announced his candidacy for a seat on the Utica Common Council.

Fred Bruzzese, a Democrat, will run for the 4th Ward Council seat currently held by Joe Marino.  Marino is vacating the seat to run for Utica Mayor.

Bruzzese spent more than 26 years as a firefighter and his father was a City of Utica Police Sargent.

“I’m running for Common Council to fight for East Utica—to combat the rising property taxes and fix our crumbling roads as well as the crisis we face in our public safety departments. I look forward to being part of the solution on the Council and an independent voice for taxpayers, not just another politician” Bruzzese said.
