A member of an NFL team is mourning the loss of his fiancee today.Brittany Burns, the 26-year-old fiancee of Buffalo Bills linebacker Tony Steward, has passed away on Tuesday, february 2, 2016 after recently being diagnosed with cancer.

Burns was diagnosed with a rare form of ovarian cancer early in December of 2015.

The Bills released a statement that read as follows:

“The Buffalo Bills are saddened to learn about the passing of Brittany Burns, the fiancée of linebacker Tony Steward. From the day Brittany arrived in Buffalo with Tony, she was an active member in the community through the Buffalo Bills Women’s Association. Our prayers and heartfelt condolences go out to Tony Steward and the family of Brittany Burns during this most difficult time.”

Burns and Steward had launched a "Fight Like a Girl" campaign to help others battle cancer shortly after her diagnosis.
