BUFFALO, N.Y. (AP) — A Buffalo man has been sentenced to six months in jail and five years of probation for running a dogfighting operation out of his home.

Erie County District Attorney John Flynn says 49-year-old Shondel Stephens pleaded guilty to dogfighting in April. He faced a maximum sentence of up to four years in prison.

Prosecutors say agents from the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals entered Stephens' home with a search warrant last August and found two severely injured pit bulls and various equipment used to train dogs for fighting.
