“Caravan of Corruption” Stops In Utica
Utica, NY (WIBX) - Caricatures of fifteen former politicians, including former senators Pedro Espada and Joseph Bruno, were on display as the "Caravan of Corruption" made a stop in Utica yesterday afternoon.
Led by Citizen Action of New York, the two-day tour made several stops across the state, including at the Utica Public Library. The show concluded its trip Wednesday evening in Albany.
Karen Scharff, Executive Director of the group, said the Caravan's goal is to display the need for publicly financed Fair Elections in New York.
"Whether you need a job or a higher minimum wage... whether you need health care or you want to see our schools be more effective or see our roads get fixed, no matter what you care about the reason it's not happening is because the big donor money is stacked against us," Scharff said. "The things that are going to benefit the average Joe in New York State are not going to happen until we change our campaign finance system."
Scharff said by changing election rules, politicians will be held more accountable to the people for their actions.
