The Mets were shut out for the fourth time in May on Wednesday, getting battered around by the St. Louis Cardinals 9-0 at Citi Field.

Bartolo Colon was tagged for eleven hits and nine runs (eight earned) in just 4 and 1/3 innings of work and suffering his second straight loss. The Met offense, which has sputtered over the last few weeks, could only muster four hits off Cardinals starter Carlos Martinez (4-2).

Matt Adams homered and drove in three, Jason Heyward also went deep and scored twice while Matt Holliday collected three hits as the Cards hot hitting continued in New York (STL has outscored the Mets 19-2 in the last two games).

The Mets will try for a split of the four game series on Thursday (1:10) with Jacob deGrom taking on St Louis' Jaime Garcia.
