The Center For Family Life and Recovery will be providing new educational display units to local police departments in an effort to fight opioid and heroin use in the local community.

The educational units provide information about drug safety, warning signs of abuse, and information on how to access drug abuse services.

The new units will be partnered with RXMedReturn Units at police stations that allow community members to safely dispose of their prescription medications.

County Executive Anthony Picente says this is another step toward fighting the opioid epidemic in Oneida County.

“Heroin is an epidemic that effects everyone," Said County Executive Anthony Picente. "By working with partners like the Center for Family Life and Recovery, Inc. we are attacking this problem proactively. RXMedReturn units have been identified as an essential component to stopping heroin addiction in its infancy. These types of proactive programs is what we expected when we invested $50,000 in this partnership. It is one step and we will continue to do all we can to fight this epidemic from spreading through our cities, towns and villages.”

RXMedReturn Units can be found in the following police departments: Boonville, Camden, Kirkland, Oriskany, Oneida County Sheriff's Department, Rome, Sherrill, and Utica.

In addition, there will be Units in the Trenton Municipal Building and Waterville Municipal Buildings.
