SYRACUSE, N.Y. (AP) — A 29-year-old Syracuse man has been charged in connection with a murder committed nine years ago.

Alfred Thomas Jr. was arrested Tuesday and arraigned on charges of murder and criminal possession of a weapon. He's being held at Onondaga County Justice Center with no bail.

Thomas is accused of the death of 21-year-old Silas Collier, who died of a gunshot wound during a disturbance in May 2007.

Syracuse Police Chief Frank Fowler said at a news conference that Collier had just driven a friend's girlfriend home as a favor when he was caught up in a disturbance that erupted in gunfire.

Fowler said detectives weren't able to identify a suspect at the time and the case was assigned to the Cold Case Unit. He says no more arrests are expected.
