SYRACUSE, N.Y. (AP) — A 30-year-old central New York man has been charged with assault and murder in connection with two shootings in Syracuse over a two-month period.

Rafael Jackson was arrested and charged Wednesday. He's being held in the Onondaga County Justice Center. It could not immediately be determined if he has a lawyer.

Jackson is accused of shooting a 20-year-old man in mid-October on the south side of the city and fatally wounding 25-year-old Jay Ford on Christmas Eve. Both victims were shot in the chest.

An investigation by detectives determined the same person committed both shootings.

Jackson was arrested after a traffic stop on the east side of the city.
