Pre-K students at the Central Valley Academy Central School District may be making the switch to a full day program before the the school year is out thanks to a State Education grant. School officials say the new full day program is designed to allow students to learn at their own pace while better preparing them for the transition into Kindergarten.

Assistant Superintendent Cindy Stocker says busing as well as breakfast and lunch will be available to the students through the grant funding.

She added that the curriculum is designed to focus on literacy and they do not intend to increase testing or make the program academically rigorous.

The program will run 5 days per week and will still be located at Barringer Road and Fisher Elementary schools.

The grant stipulates that if the program is not implemented this school term, the grant will be cancelled.

The program will begin when the grant funds are released to the school district.
