Utica, NY (WIBX) - This Friday, at the Boehlert Center at Union Station, the first of 12 new Centro buses will begin to service Utica's residents.

According to Centro, the buses are locally manufactured by Orion Bus Industries in Oriskany, and feature graphics designed and made by Seifert Graphics, another Oriskany business.

The 35-foot long buses have brighter destination signs, "Low Floor" technology reducing the need to step up into the bus, and mobility ramps for easier boarding.

They also meet the EPA's revised emission standards.

Centro of Oneida General Manager, Ron Bucciero, says the company is "continuing to upgrade our fleet in order to provide the best transportation services to our community."

During the coming weeks, Centro has plans to phase the new vehicles in, replacing buses that have reached the end of their usable cycle.
