A Chadwicks man escaped serious injury in a car-pedestrian accident on Champlain Avenue near the St. Luke’s and Utica College intersection.

New Hartford Police say 52-year old Charles Schmidt was crossing the road at around 5:45 this morning when he walked into the path of an oncoming vehicle.

Schmidt complained of leg and chest pain but was able to walk on his own to the St. Luke’s ER.

Police say he was wearing dark colored clothing and was also in possession of an open can of alcohol.

Schmidt was ticketed for crossing against a Do Not Walk signal and faces an additional charge of possession of an open container.
