My wife and I recently sold our house and spent weeks touring through new houses in the area in order to locate a home base that was closer to our workplaces.  During our travels, we came across some amazing homes and we also witnessed some real safety hazards. It's amazing how easy it is to accept 'temporary fixes' in our homes when we live there; but, when considering someone else's home for purchase, we immediately become picky safety inspectors.  After all, you want to make sure you're buying a home that's safe and sound and the last thing you want are costly 'money pit' surprises just weeks after you move in.
