Deputy Chief Jon Owens of The Oneida County Sheriff's Department joined First News with Keeler in the Morning today to talk about his accomplishment of graduating from the 259th session of the FBI National Academy in Quantico, Virginia. Not only is Chief Deputy Owens a great law enforcement officer, he is also a great leader and motivator. I learned this from my own personal experiences with him.

During my time as a cross country runner at Notre Dame High School, I had the privilege of being coached by Chief Deputy Owens. Not only is he in great physical shape, but he is also a great teacher when it comes to the sport of running, a skill he shares with his brother Jimmy. I was not the best runner, but he always knew how to motivate me to be the best I could be. The same goes for the entire team. He has the unique ability to recognize your strengths and help you hone in on them, A skill that was no doubt improved upon during his time in Quantico. As a devoted husband, father, and brother Jon never hesitates to lend a helping hand to anyone in need.

If you see this man, be sure to shake his hand and say thank you and congrats! I'm glad to know him!
