Utica, NY (WIBX) - Dinners and other holiday festivities will be provided on Christmas to individuals who are homeless or who are struggling in Utica.

The Rescue Mission will serve about 1,000 meals and provide an equal number of gifts to those who stop in this year.

"What we want to be able to do is to help those who both can come in and receive a meal that day, and we also deliver about half of those meals," Executive Director of the Rescue Mission Reverend Bill Dodge said. "About 600 of those will be delivered directly to people's homes, and many of them are alone or can't get out of their homes."

Dodge says they are expecting about 200 volunteers to help serve food and deliver meals.

The celebration begins at the Mission with a worship service at 11 a.m., and dinner will immediately follow.
