Cisco Buys Solar Deal for Its Silicon Valley Headquarters

A world giant in information technology is now trying to become a leader in energy technology as well.

Cisco Systems is said to be signing a deal that would power its headquarters in Silicon Valley using solar energy.

The company, listed as number 15 on Forbes' list of most powerful brands in 2015, plans to purchase power created on a solar farm being built by NRG Renew on 153 acres in California.  The energy will be put back into the grid and Cisco will be able to use the equivalent amount of "green" power.

The company, which employs more than 74,000 people, has a goal to use renewable energy to meet at least twenty-five percent of its energy requirements through 2017.

As of this posting Cisco is estimated to be worth approximately $27 billion.
