The two citizens who helped a Utica Police officer subdue an armed burglary suspect were honored today with Certificates of Recognition from Mayor Robert Palmieri and Utica Police Chief Mark Williams.

Jack Carter and Stanley Markis came to the aid of UPD officer John Lomonico as he was attempting to arrest 43 year old Ronald Flagg.

Chief Williams says Carter and Markis helped prevent a tragedy.

Carter says he wasn't thinking about the dangerous situation he was in while helping officer Lomonico

Carter and Markis were also given $500 gift cards from the Police Benevolent Association, the Police Chief and Deputy Chief's Union and the Thomas Lindsey Foundation.

And Carter and the five children he's helping raise will get a trip to Enchanted Forest in Old Forge.
