A ribbon cutting ceremony was held on Friday for new housing units for homeless veterans at the Central New York Veterans Outreach Center in downtown Utica.

The $3.2 million project was funded by the New York State Office of Temporary and Disability Assistance.

It includes 17 apartments, ten for transitional housing and seven for permanent housing.

Veterans Outreach Center Executive Director Vince Scalise say the new units provide much-needed housing for homeless veterans in the area.

Scalise announced that the building will now be known at the Charles A Gaetano Veterans Complex, named after developer Charles Gaetano, who donated the building for the Vets Center ten years ago.
