The Central New York Veteran's Outreach Center has been awarded a $3.1 million state grant to develop housing for veterans and their families.

Assemblyman Anthony Brindisi says the funding comes from the State's Homeless Housing and Assistance Program.

The Outreach Center plans to add 17 housing units on the third and fourth floors of its downtown Utica Center on Washington Street.

Brindisi says the project will be a major step forward for veterans' services in the Mohawk Valley.

“There is a very legitimate need in the Mohawk Valley for safe, supportive housing for veterans and their families.  Through teamwork and its strong network of collaborations, the Utica Center for Development wrote a winning plan that will not only house veterans and their families, but provide them with the services they need to get back on their feet,” Brindisi said.
