Utica, NY (WIBX) - Syracuse Basketball Coach Jim Boeheim and his wife Juli, made a special stop at Saint Elizabeth Medical Center to present the foundation with a grant to help support cancer patients and their families. In only its first year, The Jim and Juli Boeheim Foundation has raised over 1 million dollars to help treat cancer patients.

Boeheim said, "We've given 26 Grants to the Central New York area, somewhere in the neighborhood of about $300,000.00, but we still work with Coaches vs. Cancer, Make-A-Wish Foundation, ARC of Onondaga--we work with a lot of different groups. The reason we do it the community has given us so much. The support for our basketball team has been ... you know, you have to say it's as good as any place in the country and so we feel we have to give back to the people that give so much to us."

The St. Elizabeth Medical Center Oncology Unit received $3,597 to purchase sleeper chairs for family members of critically ill patients from the Jim and Juli Boeheim Foundation.
