NORTHPORT, N.Y. (AP) — The search for a Long Island kayaker who went missing over the weekend has been suspended.

Twenty-four-year-old Selvin Vasquez Enamorado, of Huntington Station, had been missing for 24 hours Monday after setting out from Crab Meadows Beach in Northport in Suffolk County on Sunday afternoon. The U.S. Coast Guard announced in a press release Monday evening they were calling off the search for Enamorado.

WCBS-TV reports (http://cbsloc.al/2rVQmnb ) that Enamorado went out with a friend on the kayak with only one life jacket, and Enamorado had supposedly given it to the other passenger after saying that he could swim.

The Coast Guard official isn't releasing friend's identity, but says he was safely retrieved by a third party. Officials say they also found the kayak within a few hours of searching.
