DIX HILLS, N.Y. (AP) — Coastal flood warnings remain in effect for parts of Long Island as Hurricane Jose weakens to a tropical storm but continues to churn in the Atlantic.

Newsday reports (http://nwsdy.li/2ycFkdw ) that no major flooding or power outages have been reported in Suffolk County, Jose's winds are whipping up dangerous surf along local beaches.

The National Weather Service has issued a coastal flood warning until 1 p.m. Wednesday for Nassau County's South Shore bays and Suffolk's shores, except western areas of Suffolk.

Jose was downgraded to a tropical storm late Tuesday night as its top winds decreased to about 70 mph (110 kph). The storm is expected to weaken more over the next two days as it remains well east of Long Island.

State officials have set up a storm response command post in Suffolk County.
