The Utica Comets pulled off an afternoon victory in Toronto on Sunday, capping off a three-day set which started Friday in Rochester.

The Comets rode a penalty killing unit that killed off 8 of 9 Marlies power
play opportunities, and Joe Cannata’s 25 saves for the victory. With the win
the Comets improved to 20-23-3-4, and have collected a point in 11 of its
past 14 games.

The Comets recorded goals from Jeremy Welsh and Pascal Pelletier. Colin
Stuart, Kent Huskins, and Alex Biega picked up the Comets assists.

The Comets first power play of the game set the stage for the game’s first
goal. MacIntyre stopped Kent Huskins’ shot from the point and sent the
rebound straight up and behind himself to a waiting Jeremy Welsh who batted
the puck out of the air and into the gaping net for his first goal as a
Comet. Colin Staurt recorded the secondary assist on the goal.

The lead would hold until the 6:54 into the second period. The Comets just
killed off the first penalty of a 5-on-3 disadvantage when Brandon Kozun
redirected a T.J. Brennan slap shot from the point past Cannata. Spencer
Abbott set up the Brennan shot with a pass from the top of the face off
circle.

Pascal Pelletier played the role of hero by breaking the 1-1 deadlocked
score with 34 seconds to play. Toronto won the face-off in their zone and
whipped the puck around the net to a waiting Alex Biega at the point. Biega
let loose a blast that Pelletier redirected past MacIntyre for the
game-clinching goal.

Utica picked up its first win of the season over Toronto after losing twice
to before, both by the score of 5-2.

Drew MacIntyre finished with 26 saves on 28 Comets shots on goal, and Kozun
picked up his 14th goal of the year.

The Comets are back in action Friday night in Syracuse against the Crunch.
