The Utica Comets knocked off the top team in the Western Conference and won their third straight at the AUD on Wednesday, 4-2 over Abbotsford Heat.

Patrick Mullen scored twice, Kellen Lain added another and Alex Beiga picked up his first goal as a Comet - an empty netter late in the third period.

Brett Olson scored in the second period for Abbotsford (20-8-1-1) to cut Utica's lead to 2-1.

But Comets goalie Joacim Eriksson was solid otherwise, stopping 26 of 28 shots faced. The only other tally he allowed came in the closing seconds of contest when Braden Lamb was able to stuff one into the net.

The Comets (9-15-1-1) continue their season long seven-game home stand on Friday night, again playing host to the Heat.
