BUFFALO, N.Y. (AP) — A community activist in western New York is leading an effort to replace a large bust of Martin Luther King Jr. in a city park.

Activist Sam Herbert tells WGRZ-TV the bust of King that sits in a namesake park in Buffalo doesn't look like the iconic civil rights leader. Herbert says the 8-foot bust should be removed and recreated with a more accurate image.

Herbert volunteers with a group called the Coalition to Save MLK Park. He says community members were disappointed with the statue when it was unveiled in 1983.

Herbert plans to discuss the issue with city officials or the group that manages the park, the Buffalo Olmsted Parks Conservancy. Herbert says the children of Buffalo deserve to see a better image of King.
