LINDENHURST, N.Y. (AP) — Hundreds of residents paid tribute to a woman killed by on Mother's Day after pushing her teenaged daughter out of the way of a car that drove onto a sidewalk.

Diane Aluska was killed last Sunday in the Long Island village of Lindenhurst.

The 55-year-old woman and her 16-year-old daughter Jenna were walking on South Wellwood Avenue when a car backed onto the sidewalk. The mother pushed her daughter before being struck.

The 80-year-old driver was not charged in the crash. The crash remains under investigation.

Kenny Aluska told Newsday (http://nwsdy.li/2qBGY7P ) her daughter was physically having good days and bad.

A wake will be held Monday.
