ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) — An oil shipper recently accused by the Environmental Protection Agency of violating air pollution standards says it hasn't reduced rail shipments to its terminal at the Port of Albany on the Hudson River.

The EPA issued a violation notice July 29 to Global Companies LLC, based in Waltham, Massachusetts.

The EPA says its calculations show 3.5 times more uncontrolled emissions than allowed by the 2012 permit that allowed quadrupling Global's annual marine loading to 1.85 billion gallons.

The agency has threatened civil penalties up to $25,000 a day and prosecution of any knowing violator 30 days after the notice.

Officials say they've seen fewer railroad tank cars lately.

Company spokeswoman Justine Griffin says Global is meeting the clean air standards, hasn't reduced shipments and plans to prove it's in compliance.
