ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) — Temporary lane closures for road and bridge construction projects on New York state highways are being suspended during peak holiday travel periods over the next two weekends.

Democratic Gov. Andrew Cuomo announced Friday that the temporary shutdowns will make it easier for New Yorkers and visitors to the state to get to and from their destinations for Christmas and New Year's.

Temporary lane closures ceased at 6 a.m. Friday and will continue through 6 a.m. Dec. 26. Highway construction will also be suspended from 6 a.m. Dec. 29 through 6 a.m. Jan. 2.
