Cooperstown School Board Votes To Remove Redskins Mascot

from Cooperstown Central School District

The Oneida Indian Nation is congratulating the Cooperstown School Board for voting to remove the Redskins mascot from its sports teams.

The board voted 6-to-1 Wednesday night to drop the name.

The move was prompted by last month’s vote by the student body that the mascot be changed.

Nation Representative Ray Halbritter is offering to make a contribution to help offset the cost of changing mascots.

Cooperstown’s official retirement of the name Redskins will take place on June 30th.
