CONKLIN, N.Y. (AP) — Authorities have released the name of the 7-year-old New York boy who died after falling through the ice on the river behind his family's upstate home.

The Broome County Sheriff's Office says Conor Brown was playing with his 8-year-old brother Sunday evening when he ventured onto the ice on the Susquehanna River behind the family's house in the town of Conklin, just south of Binghamton.

Deputies say his mother heard yelling and ran outside to rescue Conor. She and her 8-year-old son fell through the ice trying to get to him but neighbors managed to pull them from the water.

A firefighter pulled Conor from the river. CPR was administered at the scene before the boy was taken to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead around 10 p.m. Sunday.
