Cornell Looks To Name Its Latest Grape Variety

ITHACA, N.Y. (AP) — Cornell University is looking for a name for its latest variety of grape.

The grape was developed by a team led by Professor Bruce Reisch at Cornell's Agricultural Experiment Station in Geneva. It looks and tastes similar to the Concord, the mainstay of jelly and jam. But the new seedless fruit is twice as big as Concord grapes.

Grapevines for the new variety are being sold exclusively by Double A Vineyards in Fredonia. Reisch says it's well adapted to the climate of the Northeast and is expected to be popular with home gardeners.

The grape-naming contest is being held through the Cornell website . First prize is $100 from Double A Vineyards.
