A student at Corning Community College is dead after a crash close to the entrance of the school yesterday.

18-Year old Justin Lewis of Painted Post, New York allegedly hit two oncoming vehicles just after 11:45 in the morning on Monday, November 18, 2013.  New York State Police believe that Lewis was driving at an unsafe speed, although the investigation is continuing.

The drivers of the other vehicles were hospitalized with non life-threatening injuries.

In an article by The Elmira Star-Gazette reporter Bob Jamieson notes that it was at least the seventh death on Spencer Hill Road, also known as Steuben County Route 40. Prior to Lewis' accident, the last fatal to occur in the area was in 2002.  Jamieson quotes Vincent Spagnoletti, Steuben County Department of Public Works Commissioner, as saying that the road had been widened in that particular area, stripped of trees, and enhanced with rumble strips cut into the road to improve safety.
