A Utica councilman is the latest lawmaker to say no to a new charter school in Utica.

Councilman Joe Marino says he'll introduce a resolution at the next council meeting opposing another charter school in Utica.

Marino says the city simply can't afford to support another charter school.

Assemblyman Anthony Brindisi and Senator Joseph Griffo have written to the state Education Commissioner, stating their opposition to a new charter school.

A group wants to open a K through fifth grade charter school in the fall of 2015.
