NEW YORK (AP) — A New York City couple has been sentenced for their role in keeping two South Korean children as slaves in their home for six years where they were forced to do housework and other chores without getting paid.

Prosecutors say 50-year-old Sook Yeong Park was sentenced to two to six years in prison on Wednesday. Her husband, 54-year-old Jeong Taek Lee, received five years of probation. Both pleaded guilty to labor trafficking.

Prosecutors say the 11-year-old sister and 9-year-old brother were forced to do household chores and work at a grocery store and give their earnings to the couple, who had seized their passports in 2010.

The abuse came to light when a high school official noticed bruises on the girl's legs.

The children have been reunited with their parents.
