Michael Cuddyer came off the bench to deliver a pinch-hit, two-RBI single helping the Mets claw past the Phillies in a 6-5 win at Citizens Bank Park in Philly on Tuesday.

Cuddyer was called upon to hit for starter Noah Syndergaard - who earlier in the game delivered an RBI-double of his own. Cuddyer's hit ultimately made a winner of Syndergaard, who moved to 8-6 after striking out nine, yielding four runs on four hits over five innings. Just two of those four runs were earned, though. A Kelly Johnson error prolonged the third inning and allowed Ryan Howard to deliver a two-run, go-ahead homer - his second dinger of the series.

Yoenis Cespedes was batting in the two-hole Tuesday, and promptly belted a two-run shot to give the Mets at an early first inning lead. David Wright went 0-4 in his second game since returning from a four-month stint on the disabled.

New York won its fifth straight and remained 5.5 games ahead of Washington. Bartolo Colon is scheduled to pitch for the Mets as the four-game series continues Wednesday night.
