ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) — Gov. Andrew Cuomo is proposing to make changes in his state budget proposal that are aimed at helping New York fight the spread of potentially lethal illegal drugs.

The Democrat announced this week that he wants to add 11 fentanyl analogs to the state controlled substances schedules, a move that will help law enforcement efforts to stem the distribution of the drugs.

Cuomo has proposed legislation that would close a loophole in state law that keeps the 11 fentanyl analogs off New York's controlled substances schedule.

The governor also proposes to add 36 different chemical compounds commonly known as K2 to the state's controlled substances list. The synthetic marijuana is listed on the federal schedule of controlled substances, but they're only banned in some counties in New York state.
