Albany, NY (WIBX) - Albany Republicans view marijuana as a gateway drug, so says State Senator John Flanagan, and Governor Cuomo's efforts to decriminalize its possession have failed.

Cuomo wanted to lessen penalties for holding under twenty-five grams of pot, stating that the practice can irrevocably mar the records of young people who "do dumb things" with drugs.

The measure was expected to sail through the Democratic-led State Assembly but Republicans are not buying into the legislation.  With only one more day left in the current session, the bill is considered dead for this term.
