Governor Andrew Cuomo has signed multiple pieces of legislation designed to protect and further women’s equality in New York State.

The new laws will help achieve pay equity, strengthen human trafficking laws and protections for domestic violence victims and end pregnancy discrimination in all workplaces.

Cuomo also announced that the state has allocated a total of $6.4 million for Sexual Assault Prevention and Assistance providers across New York.

Assemblyman Anthony Brindisi issued the following statement on the signing of the legislation by the Governor:

The Women’s Equality Act goes a long way toward granting women the same rights as men here in New York State.  This is an issue I hear about almost daily from constituents.  I am proud to have supported this package of legislation, but there is still work to be done.  Only 21 percent of my colleagues in the New York State legislature are women, and we need to do more to provide full equality in our state.”
