Cuomo’s Approval Rating Up After Federal Tax Fight Vow

ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) — A Siena College poll finds New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo's favorability rating is up after the Democrat vowed to challenge the federal income tax overhaul that's expected to hurt the state.

Sixty-two percent of likely voters surveyed said they viewed Cuomo favorably, compared to 30 percent who said they didn't. The poll, released Tuesday, shows that Cuomo is the most popular Democratic leader in the state.

A Siena poll in November put Cuomo's favorability rating at 52 percent.

The telephone poll of 824 New York registered voters has a plus or minus 4-percentage-point margin of error. It was conducted Jan. 7-11, shortly after Cuomo used his state of the state address to take on Trump administration policies, including the Republican-led tax overhaul.

Cuomo is considered a potential 2020 presidential contender.
