HAUPPAUGE, N.Y. (AP) — A Long Island man accused of sexually assaulting his ex-girlfriend and fatally shooting a dog in her presence has pleaded not guilty to the charges.

Newsday reports that Justin Suarez, of Hampton Bays, was arraigned Monday on a 34-count indictment including charges of rape and felony aggravated cruelty to animals.

Suarez was arrested in Pennsylvania last week by the U.S. Marshals Regional Fugitive Task Force. Suffolk County prosecutors say Suarez was wanted for victimizing two ex-girlfriends, and allegedly raping one last year.

Prosecutors say Suarez is accused of stalking the woman and threatening her with a sledgehammer.

Federal officials say Suarez was wanted in connection with more than 30 counts of violent domestic crime.

He remains jailed on $500,000 cash bail.
