Johnson City Police now say a Village man is being charged for directing his young daughter to run onto a porch on High Street and steal a package that had just been delivered to the address.

48-year-old Bernard Miller, Junior is charged with petit larceny and endangering the welfare of a child.

The girl’s case was referred to Child Protective Services. She is not being charged.

The homeowners were away shopping on the evening of December 17 when they got a text message that an expected package had been delivered.  When they arrived home, there was no package and a review of home surveillance footage showed a man and child walking back and forth in front of the home a few times before the girl dashed onto the porch, was surprised when the light came on but still snatched the package and ran.

Police remind people year-round to protect property being delivered to them by having the delivery placed elsewhere than near the front door, have it sent to work or to a trusted neighbor.
