David Wright took batting practice on Wednesday for the first time since going on the disabled list earlier this month, however the third baseman has yet to begin base running drills to test his strained hamstring.

While seeing Wright in the cage is a good sign for the Mets - and is on par with his 15-day DL stint - instead of returning him to the lineup this weekend, the team may hold off until late next week, Mets.com reports.

The reason is that the Mets have two off days next week (Monday and Thursday), so giving him four to five more days of rest would mean he'd only miss another two or three games.

Wright hasn't played since injuring the hamstring while sliding into second base on April 14. He was hitting .333 with one home run. Filling in for Wright, Eric Campbell has hit .222 with homer and fair defense in the field.
