ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) — The New York Department of Environmental Conservation says there are still deer hunting permits available in several wildlife management units.

Permits are available in units where the target quota has not been reached. The application process re-opens Tuesday and is on a first-come, first-served basis. Hunters may apply for up to two additional permits.

The permits allow for taking antlerless deer and are issued for specific areas to control deer populations.

Routine updates of the permit process will be available on the DEC website or by phone at 1-866-472-4332. Permits are not available by phone, mail, or internet.
