Albany, NY (WIBX) - If you're headed to the Adirondacks this weekend -- be on the lookout for moose!

The State Department of Environmental Conservation says motorists should be alert for moose on the roadways this time of year.Officials say early fall is breeding season for moose in northern New York and the animals are wandering looking for mates, leading them to areas where they are not typically seen.

Moose are most active at dawn and dusk.

The DEC says they're especially difficult to see at night because of their dark brown to black covering and their height, which puts their head and much of their body above vehicle headlights.
