Delhi Driver Succumbs to Burn Injuries

A Delaware County teen is dead after sustaining extensive burns when the minivan he was driving crashed into a 1,000 gallon propane tank next to the American Legion Post in Delhi.

Police say 19-year- old Joseph Mueller of Delhi died at Upstate Medical Center in Syracuse on May 14, 2015.

The teen had been transferred to the burn unit after initially being taken to O’Connor Hospital in Delhi immediately following the May 13 crash, explosion and fire.

Three storage buildings were destroyed and a pavilion was damaged in the blast and fire as the minivan crashed into the propane tank at 8:25 p.m., driving it off its base.

Dozens of people in the American Legion for bingo night were evacuated but the main building was not damaged.

The crash is still under investigation.
