Deputies: Car Passenger Killed In Crash During Chase
HANAHAN, S.C. (AP) — Authorities say a woman has been killed in South Carolina after the vehicle she was riding in crashed during a chase with deputies.
Berkeley County Coroner Bill Salisbury tells news outlets 25-year-old Megan Calhoun of Goose Creek was ejected from the car and died early Sunday.
Berkeley County Chief Deputy Mike Cochran says Calhoun was a passenger in the vehicle that a sheriff's deputy tried to stop for a traffic violation.
South Carolina Highway Patrol Lance Cpl. Judd Jones says the car was traveling when it ran off the side of the road and the 27-year-old driver lost control, hitting the curb.
The car went into a ditch and struck several trees before returning to the roadway. Salisbury says Calhoun was ejected from the vehicle.
The crash remains under investigation.
