Albany, NY (WIBX) - Assemblywoman Roann Destito is one of 68 Assembly Democrat who have come out in opposition to Governor Cuomo's proposed cuts to education aid.

The group has sent a letter to Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver asking for an extension of a temporary income tax surcharge on wealthy New Yorkers. The lawmakers say Cuomo's proposed cuts would hurt the poorest and highest-need school districts in the state.

Assembly Democrats say extending the income tax surcharge on high-earning New Yorkers and closing corporate loopholes in the state tax code will save the state money without hurting education.
