Destito: Closing Barnes Ave. Bridge A Crisis For Business

Utica, NY (WIBX) - Assemblywoman RoAnn Destito is asking for a quick resolution to the closure of the Barnes Avenue bridge in Utica.

Destito says CSX Transportation owns the bridge and they let it deteriorate.

She says she would like to see cooperation with the State Department of Transportation to come up with a safe and cost-effective alternate access route for businesses that have been severely impacted by the closure.

"There is land parallel to the tracks on the other side that could be accessed from a different area that would provide access to the Utica Marsh and the businesses on the other side of the bridge," Destito said.

Destito is also requesting assistance with several closed or deteriorating bridges in the Rome area.
